Drake White, putting the country back in country music.

Over the last 20 years, the coat of lacquer has been more and more heavily applied to country music. The genre is almost unrecognizable from the roots in which it derived. The new pop country leans more heavily on pop than country these days, and artists are less and less identifiable as the blue collar, working class folks of the past. Today’s country stars resemble more of the Hollywood superstar image and relate less to their core audience with each passing day. There may still be hope for country yet. Drake White, a bright and up-and-coming singer-songwriter, has the potential to put country music back on the right track.

Drake White: Where The Music Is Involuntary

What exactly does one mean when they say something is done involuntarily? Here are a couple of definitions for you..”done without conscious control…or automatic”. There are a lot of things that are involuntary. A few things that might make your list are sneezing, or maybe yawning. Some may say falling in love. I think we all could agree on breathing as maybe the number one answer for an involuntary act. But how about music? In a conversation literally minutes before showtime on Saturday night in Chattanooga, TN at Track 29, Drake White spoke of how each and every night he and his band “sharpen their blade” with every show…to the point that the music is becoming involuntary. Drake says with all the shows they have put in over the last year that they just keep fine tuning it every night. Involuntary is a description that I associated with what Drake was speaking of, and if you’d seen his show last night, you’d know what I’m talking about. When Drake takes the stage I think he actually meets another form of the definition..”concerned in bodily processes that are not under the control of the will”.(esp. of muscles or nerves) Drake’s body literally loses control when he begins to play! Souloozes from every extremity of his body! His feet tap and stomp, his eyes open and close uncontrollably, he twists, turns, jumps, and spins! His fists pump, his hands clap, and his voice…his voice…sings like the gospel speaking to your soul! And It’s all involuntary! It’s what the music does to him….and to you! The listener…the fan….can’t help but be drawn in to every ounce of energy that Drake brings to the stage. You can’t help but smile, shake, rattle, and roll to the tunes of Drake White! It causes another involuntary action for you too….GOOSE BUMPS!

News from the Big Fire Base Camp

The Latest News from the Big Fire Base Camp

“The Simple Life” is the debut single for new country artist Drake White.  For the Hokes Bluff, Alabama native, “The Simple Life” is more than a song; it’s a way of life.  Drake still follows the Farmer’s Almanac in a culture where most follow The Weather Channel.  Drake encourages his faithful footstompin’ fans to get back to a simpler way of life.  In the ‘Fast paced rat race, who’s gonna finish first’ society we live in, we forget to stop and take it all in, to appreciate the small stuff like ‘beer ice cold, sunrise, sunset, grillin’ on the back steps, pickin’ on a good song’, that’s The Simple Life to Drake.

“The Simple Life” was released to radio markets on March 25th and quickly became Billboard Magazine’s most added song in country music for the week.  Fans flooded the phone lines from Wisconsin, to Texas, to California, to Georgia requesting “The Simple Life”.   Now fans can purchase the single Tuesday, April 9th on iTunes, Amazon or DrakeWhite.com.

Drake says, “The grassroots following of “footstompin’ fans are the reason for his success.  They come to shows, share photos and videos over the internet and the simple way, by word of mouth.  He aptly calls this, “Spreading the Fire” a term paying homage to his roots of sitting around the campfire pickin’ and grinnin’ with friends and family.  “Thanks to all my footstompin’ fans for the support, Yeepaaa!”

So folks, don’t forget to buy your copy of “The Simple Life” on Tuesday.  You can add it to your iTunes or Amazon wish list now.  Check out the website for the latest news and announcements from the Big Fire Base Camp, www.drakewhite.com.

DEBUT SINGLE “THE SIMPLE LIFE” AT RADIO NOW

SINGER/SONGWRITER INFUSES COUNTRY, ROCK AND BLUES

Nashville, TN – MCA Nashville singer/songwriter Drake White released his debut single, “The Simple Life,” to radio this week tying Justin Moore for the most added song. “The Simple Life” is co-written by Drake, Jeremy Stover and Brian Dean Maher and will appear on Drake’s upcoming debut album (title TBD) due out late 2013 on MCA.

To hear “The Simple Life” click here and to see Drake discuss his debut single, click here.

Drake explains what’s behind the debut single saying “There’s a buzz in this world. There’s a distraction and a constant noise. ‘The Simple Life’ is about getting away from that and knowing what is important to you—family, friends, God, whatever and really feeling that you don’t have to be going  90 million miles an hour all the time.“

He adds, “You can slow down, live simply and when you let the loose ends drag, they say the stress levels go down, the health goes up. When you’re healthy and stress free, that’s a good life.  That’s the simple life.”

The Alabama native describes his sound as “country rockin’ freestyle blues” with influences by Ray Charles, Merle Haggard, Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson, whom Drake toured with on the Country Throwdown tour. He has also opened for Eric Church, Kid Rock, Alan Jackson, Little Big Town and most recently, Blackberry Smoke.

Drake White, ‘The Simple Life’ – Song Review

BY: Billy Dukes for Taste of Country

Songs like Drake White’s ‘The Simple Life’ end up inspiring scores of new singer-songwriters to bring their talents to Nashville. White makes it look so easy, singing about familiar pleasures we all know and usually under-appreciate.

‘The Simple Life’ is a great singalong song. The chorus is unique and catchy. The way he says “woman” is charming and memorable. One imagines a sea of fans shouting it just the same way at the hottest outdoor festivals this summer. It’s not “woman,” it’s “wah-man.”

“I said I’m a fan of beer ice cold / Waving at my neighbor when I meet him on the road / Kissing on my woman in the moon light / Yeah, I’m a fan of the simple life / Give me a good pair of boots / A small piece of land / A little ol’ house where I can hang my hat / I’ll be a happy man / Yes, I’m a fan of the simple life.”

Songs that look this easy to replicate usually come from great songwriters, and while fans haven’t heard enough of White’s catalog to enshrine him quite yet, ‘The Simple Life’ is a gem. Familiar furniture appears polished when coming from this artist, who sings with an inspired looseness fans beg to see live.

“I’ll take a country road, yes I’ll take a row of beans / I’ll take an old church pew with my family sittin’ next to me / I said a sunrise, sunset grillin’ on the back steps / Pickin’ on a good song tonight / Hey I’m a fan of the simple life,” White sings to close the second verse.

On ‘The Simple Life,’ White is a more countrified Corey Smith, seemingly cut from the same songwriter cloth (the two even share the same manicured beard and affinity for unusual headwear). His song is tailor-made for country radio, and with a little luck it will become one fans are scrambling to find on iTunes.

Drake White – CRS 2013

Drake had the pleasure of playing at the Ryman Auditorium and Hard Rock Cafe for Country Radio Seminar 2013. Drake White is an aspiring singer songwriter residing in Nashville, TN. The Hokes Bluff, Alabama native has a very different country feel with a freestyle twist on many of his original songs. He ad-libs throughout a show phrasing rhythmic lyrics as his entertaining live show unfolds. Drake frequently involves the audience in his witty craftsmanship of verbalization as well. The enthusiastic 27 year old credits many country, blues, rock, freestyle and bluegrass influences that forms his musical sound that is unique in its own way. The EMI singer/songwriter is incredibly motivated in his pursuit of creating great music and wants nothing more than to do what he loves. 615 Picks: 10 Artists to Watch in 2013

BY: Chuck Dauphin, Nashville

Drake White — MCA Nashville has a lot of hopes riding on their new artist, and well they should. He possesses a sharp wit in his songwriting that is comparable to that of an early Brad Paisley. Anyone who cites bluegrass and freestyle sounds in his bio is sure to be a little off-center musically, and that is a very good thing. With material like “Fifty Years Too Late,” White is sure to make a mark with audiences in 2013!
